Ce devait être ce mois-ci de l’année,
Novembre, car j’avais des bottes en caoutchouc
et celle des vaches étaient de boue.

Il n’y avait pas beaucoup de lait à traire
mais il fallait le faire tout de même,
une goutte pour le thé. La mastite.

Arrière-trains tièdes dans la fraîcheur
hyperboles blanches dans l’obscurité
rumination méthodique du foin –

MEMORY

It must have been this month of the year,
November, because I wore boots of rubber
and the cows wore boots of mud.

Ther wasn’t a lot of milk to be milked
but still it had to be done,
a drop for the tea. Mastitis.

Warm hindquarters in the draught
white hyperbolas in the dark
methodical munching of hay –

ah, what a way
to have grown up,
what a way.
